Moab-MTB-2008

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay in posting. I spent 5 days mountain biking in Moab, Utah on some great slickrock. We got 120+ miles in with only minor casualties. One sprained wrist (mine--luckily only sprain), bent derailleur hanger, bent cassette, several flats, one 17 year old grip shift and a few scraps. I will get back to Morocco, but for now here are some photos from Moab. First up is the classic slickrock trail.

Day 1 slickrock: Temp 35ish to start.

Our first break. It warmed up to what seemed like 50 degrees...time for the short sleeves.

The slickrock is awesome with bizarre switchback corners on rock, with a nice flowing path.

Trey, also dubbed Jack Russell Terry for his energy, saw a hill and rode up one when ever he could while waiting for us.
Some great slickrock..aka sandpaper rock for its incredible traction.

Trey again finding a hill to climb and ride down.
Our group shot. Note it is on top of a rock hill we rode up to. Guess whose decision to climb the hill it was...
This gives some perspective on what the hills were like.
My first panorama with people in it. Beautiful view of Moab from here.
Yes another break.

It is hard to see the angle, but this was a healthy climb up really steep slickrock...aka sandpaper rock.

Every rock strata needs a person helping keep it supported from falling

Our first break. It went from 35 degrees in the morning to low 50's by this time.

We saw this view and knew we had to have lunch here. Colorado River below.

More flowing slickrock. They paint the rocks white to find the path.

This rock looked like a plate of brownies.

Loved the rock. Great.

Not sure where Trey was going, but it had a hill next to it.

This was a great place for a lunch.

Hope you enjoyed slickrock

Hello...I hadn't checked your BLOG for a while; I was expecting more of North Africa, and the colors of Utah were so similar I didn't realize it right away that you were telling a different story. What a great adventure. As always I enjoy the words and pictures...more, more, more....
